RESEARCH AREAS

The future technologies for our research interests comprise of, but not limited to the followings:

  • Alternative fuels for internal combustion engines (ICE) including other renewable energies for propulsion of vehicles i.e. biodiesel, hydrous bio-ethanol, hydrogen, bio-oil, ethanol-diesel mixture, hydrogen-diesel mixture, and so on.

  • After-treatment technology for emission reduction from the combustion in ICE. Development of after-treatment devices for alternative fuels.

  • Engine verification and calibration on engine dynamometer. Development of an engine that can run with various alternative fuels.

  • Engine thermal management.

  • Fuel jet-spray investigation.

  • Fuel reforming, to reform any hydrocarbon-oxygenated fuels into hydrogen-rich gas to combust in ICE using catalysts.

  • Engine lubrication. Reducing friction losses in machines.

  • Improving turbocharger performance.

  • Combustion, combustor, injector and external combustion engines.

  • Engine and vehicle control systems. Development of products that control engines running with bi- or tri- fuels.

  • Vehicle structural design and analysis of strength of vehicle parts.

  • Vehicle safety issues.

  • Vehicle testing on chassis dynamometer.

  • Third generation biodiesel production.

  • Gas oil production by pyrolysis of plastic or waste.

  • Energy conservation in industrial and household buildings.

  • Development of oil-water separator prototypes for waste water from public kitchen.

  • The application of hydrolyser with diesel vehicle for energy saving and pollution reduction.

  • A study of type and optimum quantity of catalyst for biodiesel production.

  • Water purifier for flood victims.

  • A development of vehicle for student formula competition.

  • Design and construction of a portable low speed data acquisition system for temperature, pressure and humidity in automotive test application.

  • Design and construction of a portable exhaust gas diluter in automotive test application.

  • A development of mighty trolley prototype.

  • Exhaust gas emissions simulation in catalytic vehicle after-treatments.

  • A development of mini chassis dynamometer prototype.

  • A development of chipper machine prototype.

  • Clean water supplier for remote area.

  • A study of waste used oil based biodiesel fuel combustion effects on a diesel particulate filter.

  • High voltage generator application to diesel engine for reducing pollutant emissions and fuel consumption.

  • Development of mathematical model of low speed balance for balancing gas turbine vibration under normal operating condition.

  • Improvement of ventilation system in non-ferrous metals processing plant.

  • Biofuel production from used vegetable oil with ethyl acetate and homogeneous catalysts.
